Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Quantiscan and Digital Grid.
Digital Grid is a tool that allows you to extract poles, primary conductors, secondary wires, service drops, crossarms, guy wires, and down guys from LiDAR data. Each asset is automatically vectorized with accurate 3D geometry fitted directly to your point cloud data.
No. The Digital Grid algorithm doesn't take classifications into consideration — it's all about the geometry of the point cloud. However, classifications are useful for Vegetation Analysis. You can select source geometry (e.g. span wires filtered by voltage), choose target classifications (e.g. medium and high vegetation), and define custom clearance zones with your own names and distances.
We're always looking for new features to add. The easiest way is to start a new support post in Discord. You can always email us at hello@quantiscan.io as well.
With the Pro plan, Digital Grid exports engineering-ready models to DXF, Shapefile, GeoJSON, and KML formats. These exports are ready for immediate use in CAD design workflows, GIS asset management systems, and engineering analysis tools.
No. Quantiscan runs on standard consumer hardware — a typical laptop is all you need. Our efficient algorithms handle massive point clouds without requiring specialized equipment, high-end servers, or expensive cloud compute resources.
The point cloud data is yours, and we never see it. However, Digital Grid files are stored in a cloud database for convenience, allowing you to access them anywhere. If this is a concern, let us know and we can explore fully local options.
Quantiscan streams COPC (Cloud-Optimized Point Cloud) files. You can convert your LAS or LAZ files directly in the app — just select Add Data → Point Cloud → Convert LAZ to COPC. Conversion runs locally on your machine with support for CRS reprojection and vertical datum assignment.
Quantiscan works out of the box for viewing point clouds, running Digital Grid extractions, and collaborating with your team. The Pro plan unlocks data export to DXF, Shapefile, GeoJSON, and KML formats, as well as configurable vegetation analysis with custom clearance zones. You can upgrade to Pro directly from within the app.
